Contract Awarded April 2007 - ZIN is teamed with prime contractor MOOG Space & Defense in support of the ARES I Upper Stage Thrust Vector Control (TVC) Actuator Assembly contract. This advanced development contract supports the NASA Glenn Research Center (GRC) with design and buildup of adjustable gimbal position controllers including electronic hardware and hydraulic actuators to steer the J2X main engine. This system will provide guidance and control of the integrated Ares/Orion vehicle. ZIN is specifically responsible for developing embedded software to take commands from the main guidance computers and control the engine direction. This will insure the Orion spacecraft and its crew reach orbit safely and efficiently. ZIN is also responsible for developing ground test equipment including the electronic test suit and mechanical test fixtures. MOOG was recently named as a member of the winning team in the competition for production of the operational upper stage of ARES I. ZIN anticipates leveraging the early contributions and successful support of MOOG during the design and development phases into future support of the new long-term contracts on the Constellation program related to the Thrust Vector Control System.
